About Canada's Public Holiday Calendar
Canada runs two parallel holiday systems: the federal holidays listed here bind only federal public servants and federally regulated industries, while most Canadians instead follow their province or territory's own holiday calendar, which varies from place to place.
The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30, added in 2021, is Canada's newest federal holiday, created to commemorate the harm done by the residential school system to Indigenous peoples.
